Listener & donor Wayne Norman dropped by in the midst of a smoky and hot summer evening to spend some time chatting with friend of the show & former guest Maria Schur to trade stories and ideas over some crunchy snacks and cool beverages. We talk a bit about Maria’s experiences on long gravel rides, Wayne’s plans for trail hiking in the Columbia River Gorge, and updates on Aaron, Brock & Anna’s summers. Always great to see Wayne when he comes through town!

Adele hasn’t been on the show in a while, and that’s because she’s been working on a secret project with Brock: they have a bun in the oven! That’s right, little baby Cyrus is preparing for birth into the world as we speak, and Adele joins the show to fill us in on what it’s like to continue bicycling into pregnancy. It’s not all fun and games, but haters gonna hate, and there aren’t that many haters, really. And there is a lot of fun to be had!
Heidi Beierle is one of the people behind the website columbiagorgecarfree.com, a resource for people who would like to explore on of Oregon’s most beautiful regions by simpler transport. Bicycling and the newest incarnation of the Columbia Gorge Express bus are two ways to expand one’s reach into a beautiful adventure.
Also thanks to our drink sponsor The Beer Mongers for generously providing our libations, and our generous Patreon donorsfor underwriting our operating costs!
Kevin Prentice has joined us before – he’s one of the geniuses at Ride With GPS, an indispensable tool for planning and having active adventures. He brings his friend Donnie Kolb from oregonbikepacking.com onto the show to talk about adventures in dirt and how to get into some fun trouble in the woods or the desert. Some of you might remember Donnie from the Oregon Outback route or his former project VeloDirt; we’re excited to finally get to meet him.
Wayne Norman is a long-time donor to our show with a road trip happening now and an incredible story of recovering from a health scare to keep on moving from Adventure To Adventure! Maria Schur is a friend who has been on our show several other times. We invited her in to describe her involvement in the Swift Summit 200/100 and how she wants to approach the event. Annalisa took a cross country bicycle tour while taking photographs & managing type 1 diabetes, and ended up staying with Guthrie who happens to be her warmshowers.org host. Check out her portrait series at 4000milesofportraits.com!
Also, Brock & Guthrie ask everyone how their eclipse experiences were.
Brock & Aaron spent some time traveling! Brock went to New Mexico and didn’t ride a bike. Aaron went to Hawaii and rode a bike! We talk about the trips and some thoughts on bicycling in Hawaii (and abroad in general), and the relative merits of standby travel.
Harry Dalgaard & Gabriel Amadeus present the first public announcement, explanation, and question/answer session of the Oregon Timber Trail, a new public route allowing people to cross the state of Oregon from south to north (or vice versa, weather conditions depending) by mountain bike or a number of other methods. We were there and caught it on tape! Thanks to Base Camp Brewing for hosting the event, filling its walls with perhaps more beards and cycling caps than ever!
Ben Flores and his fiancee Sande are in town, and we chat about their visit! Ben is the Beverage Director at 12th Ave Grill in Honolulu, so we ask him about “mixology” and carving ice. He’s also working on a collaboration with House Spirits Distillery from here in Portland! Sande rode the bus a lot, so we ask about island transit. Then we talk about longboarding. And there’s a whole lot of laughter, which we’ve come to expect from the Flores brand!
