Cycling across Europe in the pandemic
Thanks to J. Leko for sending us this BBC World Service video! “Over a billion euros has been invested in cycling across Europe since the start of the pandemic. Some of the continent’s biggest cities are being transformed as people seek alternative, safer, greener ways to move around. Anna Holligan travels across Europe to see how people are getting on their bikes and asks if the surge in cycling is the start of a much bigger change in the way we travel.”

Via Instagram, Junk Miles said, in response to our conversation about bike tours, “Super interesting answers, Joan and team – thank you!”

Answer for J Leko about studded tires from Doug CohenMiller: “I do studded tires. They are AWESOME for Ice. They make minimal difference on snow. I don’t have a Brompton, so I can’t speak directly to that, but maybe some sort of thick neoprene cloth could be carried on board and placed over the tire where it would hit  so it doesn’t scratch.”

E545 – Doug CohenMiller In Kazakhstan!

Doug CohenMiller has been a podcast listener and friend, and we met across time zones to chat without causing a quantum reaction that would implode our known reality.  Doug did a lot of bicycling in Texas before his family relocated to Kazakhstan (no, he hasn’t seen Borat, though we discuss “my wife”) where he braves pummeling winds and bitter cold in three different winter coats!  He’s also the graphic designer behind the coffeeneuring patches!  Stay tuned after the credits for his story of meeting bicycle legend Gary Fisher after chasing him through an airport.
