E534 – The Black Resilience Fund, with Cameron Whitten

We’re joined by Cameron Whitten, notable for many admirable projects and involvements, cofounder of the Black Resilience Fund, a direct financial assistance program spurred into existence by awareness of the ongoing needs of black Portlanders in these unusual times.  Cameron shares their experiences in life that led them to the point of being able to recognize these needs, and some ideas of what working towards a better world might look like.  We recommend that everyone who is able to donate do so!

Thanks to our nationally recognized “top beer bar in Oregon” beverage sponsor, The Beer Mongers, now open for more than 4,000 days consecutively. They have a patio outside the place and, if you’re lucky, you might be able to catch some sports with sound.  The big stick remains indoor on the ceiling.  And, as always, thanks to our generous Patreon donors that keep us going!

E533 – Northwest Hub in Salem, Oregon (with Abdul & Kirk)

Kirk Seyfert & Abdullah Mustafa from The Northwest Hub join the show to discuss this pro-human bike shop and its programs honoring and empowering the humanity, dignity, and value of every person that needs a bicycle!  We chat about Abdul’s Everesting Challenge and how much climbing he recently did, the Frame Up program he was fundraising for, the history of the Northwest Hub’s development, and what they’re up to these days.  They’re a fine organization to donate to!

Also: Brock is podcasting from a parked truck in Tacoma, and the air quality has been terrible lately.

this episode originally aired in July 2015, and we brig it to you due to the holiday weekend and our production schedule needing a break!  see you next week!

also, this week’s show is released at a time when devastating wildfires have seriously affected many places on the West Coast.  we stand in solidarity with all who have been affected by these tragic events and encourage those who are able to donate to reputable charities that are assisting with relief efforts.

Brock & Aaron are both out of town, but you’re in good hands, since people you’ve met before ARE actually flying this thing.  Eva from Clever Cycles is this week’s guest!  Thanks to our fantastic ghost hosts, Guthrie Straw and Steph Routh!

In this episode we cover:

– The future of cargo biking. (Or as Portlanders call it, “getting to where I’m going”)

– “Making it till you Make it”.

– Trivia & Interesting things that all Americans probably should, but don’t actually know about Canada.

Join us!
