E349 – The Ladd’s 500/Justin Patti’s Adventures

Brock & Aaron participated in The Ladd’s 500, arguably the stupidest bike event of the spring season.  And that’s why it’s so great!  Five hundred laps around a ⅕ mile circle, mostly by relay teams but also by a few individuals.  What happened?  All the stories, here.

Justin Patti is an acquaintance from Colorado who recently moved to Portland!  He’s a friend of former show guest The Professor, a bicycle enthusiast who once helped staff KRFC’s Bikes and Beer radio show, and he recently took a low-structure trip to have bicycling adventures in southern California.

E348 – Cat Goes For A Joyride

Cat Caparello radically changed her life through the Girl Eats Bike project, losing weight and leaning into a bicycling experience whether the world was ready for her to or not.  Now, she covers women in bicycling experiences, encouraging everyone to jump in and try it out; don’t wait for permission or for the imaging to change in the industry!  She hosts the Joyride Podcast which shares inspiring stories and conversation from interesting women involved in bicycling (including a show she just did with our best friend Aqua!), and you really should check it out.

Also Brock’s brother-in-law Phil is in town, and gives a short update on the nor’easter that just hit Boston.

A little bonus content – the Mini Bike Winter 2017 Chariot Wars!  We sent field correspondent Karah out to talk to people and get some audio of the glorious rage that comprises the event loved by many, feared by some, and even reviled by a few.  But most folks come out on the other side loving and respecting their friends even more.  Beating the shit out of your comrades has a strange bonding effect.

The Sprocket Podcast does not condone or endorse unpermitted or illegal activities of any kind.  You, as a grown adult, must navigate the labyrinthine web of life choices yourself.

E347 – SPRING BREAK

Brock & Aaron spent some time traveling!  Brock went to New Mexico and didn’t ride a bike.  Aaron went to Hawaii and rode a bike!  We talk about the trips and some thoughts on bicycling in Hawaii (and abroad in general), and the relative merits of standby travel.

E346b – LIVE announcement of the Oregon Timber Trail at Base Camp Brewing

Harry Dalgaard & Gabriel Amadeus present the first public announcement, explanation, and question/answer session of the Oregon Timber Trail, a new public route allowing people to cross the state of Oregon from south to north (or vice versa, weather conditions depending) by mountain bike or a number of other methods.  We were there and caught it on tape!  Thanks to Base Camp Brewing for hosting the event, filling its walls with perhaps more beards and cycling caps than ever!
