E421 – Adele and Cyrus: Biking While Expecting

Adele hasn’t been on the show in a while, and that’s because she’s been working on a secret project with Brock: they have a bun in the oven!  That’s right, little baby Cyrus is preparing for birth into the world as we speak, and Adele joins the show to fill us in on what it’s like to continue bicycling into pregnancy.  It’s not all fun and games, but haters gonna hate, and there aren’t that many haters, really.  And there is a lot of fun to be had!

As always, thanks to our drink sponsor The Beer Mongers & our generous Patreon donors.

Also, Bicycle/Race, Adonia Lugo’s “…unforgettable picture of Los Angeles — and the United States — from the perspective of two wheels” is available from Microcosm Publishing and wherever you get your books.

E193 – Carl Larson on Bike Fun. Lisa Nims on Anything Else.

If you don’t know Carl Larson by now that’s your loss. Considered by many (well… me) as  bike fun incarnate, Carl is here to set the record straight that bike fun is best when not centered around the bike. Pay homage to history by listening especially to his story about riding with DarcelleXV

Joining us is my friend Lisa Nims. She and I used to work together, but we don’t now. Now I have a friend that’s not a work friend. Lisa shares her experiences riding, her trepidations on riding in groups, and stories from volunteering at the Marie Smith Center. She was also instrumental in putting together the ‘zine and tumblr: Tell it Like it Tiz. Stories from those with whom she shares time at the Marie Smith. With luck she’ll be co-hosting more often.

E191 – Maria Schur’s Oregon Outback plus Brock and Adele week 1&2

Maria Schur’s second time on the show was a little difficult to get recorded. Scheduling conflicts abounded! Still, I felt it important, nay necessary, to get her story out for all of you to hear. In the end, I took a ride to her place with iPod in hand and sat down with her for some morning coffee and conversation.

Pictures!! I keep forgetting to take pictures. These next few shows may be semi-photoless. For what it’s worth, I did get a shot of the steed she rode through the Outback.

I dub this episode an “aaron light” episode. No mail or headlines this week, but I did insert Brock and Adele’s week 1 and 2 dispatches from the road.

Dan Christensen is a transit bus driver who shares his experiences by blog, twitter, and live storytelling.  He was kind enough to drop in for a chat about being a driver, dealing with traffic and bicycles, and experiencing Mount Saint Helens’ eruption in 1980.  Read his writing at rolleasyblog.com!

We also implore our listeners to drunk dial us (503-847-9774), Brock describes an amorous evening gone wrong over the last weekend, and we discuss bicycle touring as a near-future occurrence.

E101 – Bill Lascher: Amtrak Stories

Bill Lascher is a journalist preparing a book on Melville Jacoby, the first Time magazine reporter killed on duty, and producer of the fabulous Thinkingest Podcast which examines our over-examining tendencies.  Today he joins us to share some of his stories of travel by train on the United States’ passenger rail service Amtrak.

After we concluded the show, there was so much to discuss that we kept on talking while the tape kept running.  More conversation with Bill Lascher here!

Portland Afoot just published some more kind words about our crossover episode a few weeks back!  Thanks as always to Michael, Lily and their crew for the fantastic work they do around low-car mobility and culture.

Also, The Sprocket Podcast concludes its Indiegogo fundraising campaign to underwrite the next season of the show during a year with thin budgets!  We have offered many personalized rewards to our backers, most recently Bryan (AKA Orange), Steve, Russ & Laura, and Jeremy!  Thanks to all of our donors for their generous support!  See the details here!

E009 – (Not) Doin’ It – Fertility Awareness as Birth Control

Our most awkward episode yet!  Friends Adele and Mary Lou discuss fertility awareness and understanding the feminine body.  Also, in the news, an Oregon law proposal seeks to keep kids on bikes off the streets, to the dismay of many.  And of course, much juvenile merriment is made over words like “mucus” and “vaginal.”  We promise next week will be different.

Drinks
Brandon enjoys his cousin’s blackberry ale, Adele drinks a Pinot Grigio & someChimay, Mary Lou has Adele’s homemade kombucha, and Brock drank a 24 oz.Tecate cerveza.

No music this week to avoid juxtaposing a reputable artist with our dubious subject material.  More music next week!
