E259 – Tim Mooney

Tim Mooney from Pedalshift is back in town! Strangely, it’s seemingly impossible to get him into the same room as both Aaron AND Brock, so he muses on the possibility that they are the same person.  We are joined by Adele Dittus as a cohost and discuss Portlandy things, long bike rides, and the definition of #notcheating when it comes to adventures.

Go to pedalshift.net for the rest of our conversations:

Thanks to our beverage sponsor, The Beer Mongers (hosting Chris Fest October 20!), and, as always, thanks to our generous Patreon donors that keep us going!

E257b – Todd the Truck Driver (and Sydney!)

Todd the Truck Driver is a fan of the show and was moving his daughter Sydney into her new home in Portland, so we invited them to join us for the studio session this week!  We talk trucking turkey with Todd and explore the world of freight transport, including how he gets around when his driving hours are up!  Hint: it includes a bicycle.

E254 – sysfail

Portland’s own Sysfail from Dropout Bike Club, PAZ, and many other bike fun things, joins us to talk about our city then and now, and the state of bike fun.

E247b – Aimee Benner: West Sac Veggie Trike, ECRs, & Carsick bags

Before his tour started, Brock hung out with listener and generous supporter Andy in Sacramento; Andy took him to The Bicycle Business and introduced him to Aimee Benner, an employee of the store who ended up having some fascinating conversation with them.  They cover Carsick Designs’ bags on the Jones H Bar, Brock test rides aSurly ECR, and they talk about the West Sac Veggie Trike and builderCycleTrucks.com!

E246 – Eva from Clever Cycles

Brock & Aaron are both out of town, but you’re in good hands, since people you’ve met before ARE actually flying this thing.  Eva from Clever Cycles is this week’s guest!  Thanks to our fantastic ghost hosts, Guthrie Straw and Steph Routh!

In this episode we cover:

– The future of cargo biking. (Or as Portlander’s call it “getting to where I’m going”)

– Family friendly riding in Portland, and abroad.

– “Making it till you Make it”.

– Trivia & Interesting things that all Americans probably should, but don’t actually know about Canada.

Join us!

This week was more of an “in-depth” interview with Eva as an episode, we’ll be back with mail & news updates in next weeks episode!

E240b – Peter Rice: Spandex Optional Bicycle Touring

Peter Rice wrote the book on how to get out there on your bike without a bunch of expensive equipment.  That means he’s right down our alley on philosophical matters of travel: do what you want to with what you already have!  We talk about his new release together with Eric Iverson & Krista Scukas, whom you may be familiar with already.  Find the author at PeterBRice.com for all your simpler touring needs.

E236b – Bike Friday Review

Listener Jim from New York asked us to check out an interview possibility with people from Bike Friday, the company in Eugene, Oregon who make bicycles, including the one Jim rides every day.  I spoke with John “Raz” Rezell who hooked Brock up with a Haul-A-Day test model to ride for a month and evaluate.  It was a fantastic ride and great for people who want to haul cargo on a bike that is designed to be portable!

Thanks to Raz & Bike Friday for the loan and the conversation, and we look forward to speaking with them again in the future!

E236 – Will Vanlue: Why Does It Always Rain On Me?

Will Vanlue: former advocacy organization official, now a hauler of soups and freelance urban sustainability engineer.  He made some sweet rain barrels, but that’s just the tip of the iceberg!  He brews, he builds, he landscapes… and no, that’s not his real twitter account.

Thanks to our beverage sponsor, The Beer Mongers, and, as always, thanks to our generous Patreon donors that keep us going!

Also:  Brock took a bike camping weekend trip, and Aaron wants to haul his unboxed frame around town for photos.

E234 – BOATS with Josh Guttmacher, Andy Schmidt & John Fritz

Josh Guttmacher, Andy Schmidt & John Fritz are boat fans who also like to bicycle.  We discuss, in this long awaited #boatmonth podcast, how boating and bicycling are similar, transporting your vessel by bike, and adventures in getting marooned or racing past “secret” racecourse markers.  Never thought we’d be on a boat.

E233 – Erin Kelley: Just Listening In

Erin Kelley just wanted to see how the podcast was made, and ended up chatting with us about Brock’s bike camping weekend, Aaron’s plans to adopt a new bike with someone special, and her own time off from work and how that gave her time to sort and declutter her stuff!  And it turns out she was a fascinating guest!  Aaron also googled the highest point in PDX.

Here’s the video Brock made about suburban scale after he forgot his sleeping bag.
