E261a REBROADCAST – Grilled By Bike does the Oregon Outback

Team Grilled By Bike.  The Oregon Outback.  What more needs to be said? Eric, JP, Eilif, & Ross party responsibly across the uninhabited lands of eastern Oregon, encountering mud, rain, fallen trees, and windfall burn barrels, while engaging in the throwing of sharp implements and the playing of table tennis.  How did it go down? They tell us.

Find Grilled By Bike on instagram.

For field audio of the adventure produced by Eric Ivy, listen to:
E261b Pt.1 Team Grilled By Bike: Exploring Unsharted Territory – The intrepid crew rides out of Klamath, plays some ping pong, watches a thunderstorm, chops down trees, interviews other bikepackers, and hangs out in a bike shop.
E261c – Pt.2 Team Grilled By Bike: Exploring Unsharted Territory – The crew interviews a long-time bikepacker, plays some more ping pong, throws the tomahawk, hangs around a campfire with some other Outback riders, and makes banana boats.
E261d – Pt.3 Team Grilled By Bike: Exploring Unsharted Territory – The crew eats all the queso, finds the endpoint at the Columbia River, talks to more bikepackers, makes camp one last time, and Eric returns to Portland with the record button still activated to talk to even more people.

E483 – REBROADCAST 2011 Crater Lake/Carter Lark Tour

Aaron, Guthrie, and friends spent this weekend doing the Crater Lake rim ride in southern Oregon – they’ll share details of that trip later, and in honor of this we present Aaron’s first appearance on the podcast from 2011 in which he, producer Brock, and Adele share their thoughts on their grueling 2011 tour to the same place.  See you next week for a new studio show!

This week we speak with Team Sincerity, the group of people who climbed several mountains with bikes and kids to get to Crater Lake, and all in the name of good fun.  Aaron Flores & Adele Dittus join us in studio, and Adam & Jodie Rust phone from Seattle.  We discuss: beer, soda, and pigeonholing, the origin of Team Sincerity, Warmshowers.org hosts Roger & May, road magic and generosity at Hobo Camp/Club Hobo, sickness and the hill climb from hell, Xanterra’s poor customer service, and many other things.

UPDATE 9/29/11Photos from the trip, which should have been shared some time back!.

Drinks
Brock & Adele drink the fantastically bad Game Day Ice from 7-Eleven, and Aaron drinks a Henry Weinhard’s Root Beer.

E467 REBROADCAST Guthrie’s First Interview!

Aaron & Guthrie are taking a much needed holiday this weekend, and while they are away we bring you Guthrie’s first appearance on the podcast from 2014!  New in-studio show next week.

Guthrie Straw grew up in Oregon and leads bicycle tours with Cycle Portland Bike Tours when he’s not enjoying longer bicycle tours of his own.  After he and Brock met during the Filmed By Bike jury screenings, they decided to record a show together, which also led to some interesting discussion about Ketchikan, Alaska and outdoor leadership dynamics.

Also: fossil fuel divestment (OPB & Alison Wiley), former co-host Brandon’s new business Rolling Oasis (now defunct), pedestrian assumptions & motorized vehicle proliferation.
