E360x Dinosaur Ribs

It’s July 4th weekend and what’s more patriotic than shirking your podcasting responsibilities and taking a week off?

In the meantime, please enjoy this bit created by 3 patriotic Americans nestled in the heart of Honolulu, HI.

We’ll return next week with a full episode with Armando and his Pedalpalooza wrap-up.

E316 – Steve Banfield’s New Take on Carsharing

Steve Banfield is the man leading ReachNow out of the planning room and into the future to provide a new take on point-to-point car rentals, and it turns out it’s an approach that is not only smart, but also promises to be classy, easy, spacious, benevolent, and perhaps even someday autonomous!  We chat about the fleet of BMW and Mini vehicles that will be rolling out in Portland this week, how they can help meet the transport needs of low-car lifestyles, and what it’s like to take your mom to the top of the Space Needle.  “Free-floating car share” for the win!

E234 – BOATS with Josh Guttmacher, Andy Schmidt & John Fritz

Josh Guttmacher, Andy Schmidt & John Fritz are boat fans who also like to bicycle.  We discuss, in this long awaited #boatmonth podcast, how boating and bicycling are similar, transporting your vessel by bike, and adventures in getting marooned or racing past “secret” racecourse markers.  Never thought we’d be on a boat.

E228b – Tim Navarette: GenZe E-Bike

Tim Navarette is a longtime Portland resident who’s currently a local representative ofGenZe, a company working on mobility solutions for urban areas.  Their new electric bicycle is one great way to get around in a city full of transportation options.  Brock spoke with Tim on his street about the bike and took a few turns around the block to see what it was like!  Adele also joins for a chance at a test ride for part of our conversation.

E225 – Stephen Szucs: #RETHINK Tour

Stephen Szucs is fascinated by more sustainable living solutions that the average Joe can implement.  He rode one of Organic Transit’s ELF trikes, Rita, on his #RETHINK tour from Canada to Florida.  We also talk about transportation choices such as longboarding, housing choices like Craig & Connie Cook’s earthship, and other kinds of choices we can make to create a better world for people now and in the future.

E222b – David Griffiths: Handcycling

David Griffiths is a person on a bicycle using adaptive technology for mobility and transportation, and is playing to his strengths!  We discuss all the aspects of that statement in this bonus episode.  What is this town like for someone using specialized equipment?  And how do people react?

E214 – Brad Davis & Jean Abbot: Moving at the speed of Ecology

note: Brock fell ill suddenly and I called on Aaron Delani to fill in. I also panicked and didn’t plug in my ipod to the soundboard. this episode will be interesting from a production standpoint.

Brad Davis and Jean Abbot of EcoSpeed were very good sports with the Aarons’ tomfoolery. EcoSpeed is the leading maker of mid-drive type electric assists for bikes and trikes. Mid-drives give more performance for a given motor and battery weight and, unlike hub motors, don’t create drag when you just want to pedal.

E194 – Swing-Bike Eric and His Amazing Friends

A little out-of-the-norm for us cycle-tourists, but who doesn’t like some good old-fashioned fun on bikes? Today we talk about bike fun on bikes that are fun in their own right. Swing Bikes!!! Eric Iverson, now dubbed Swingbike Eric, come to the studio with his friends J.P. and Eilif who introduced me to maybe one of the most fun ways to get from Point A to Point B. It’s possible you’ve already met these three. Anyone remember that whole Grill By Bike ride?!? That was these guys, and you know we’re gonna be talking about that.

E168b – Organic Transit’s ELF Test Drive

Organic Transit visited Portland, Oregon last weekend to demonstrate their ELF electric-assist tricycles, which are pedal powered and solar powered.  Brock had a chance to interview company owner and inventor Rob Cotter, Portland resident and ELF enthusiast Lorraine, and long-time ELF believer Ned from upstate New York, and spoke briefly to an Oregonian reporter (who contributed to an article with a photo gallery that Brock appears in).

Visit organictransit.com for more information on these innovative creations.
