E131 – Tomas Quinones: Renaissance Man

Tomas Quinones has many things to discuss! He is an artist, tiny house dweller, employee of Velo Cult, founding member of Cycle Wild, works with the 55th Cascadia Scouts, and, if all the above was not enough, an independent adventurer in his scant free time.  We also discuss the Path Less Pedaled and their Portland rain shirt, bicycling beginnings & the move to Portland, Kael’s Cargo Flyer bike, wool clothing, adventures to Ape Cave & Mt. Hood.  You can find Tomas’ coloring and activity books at Bikeasaurusif you’re in Portland.

Co-host Aaron Flores will be in Hawaii this week on vacation, the lucky bastard.  He will resume his standard duties in two weeks, and be sorely missed until then.

E129 – Lindsay Kandra: Racing & Neuroses

Lindsay Kandra is a bicycle racer and cancer survivor.  We talk with her about the nuances of bicycle racing culture, gender differences, and our own neuroses around our interactions with racers.  She also mentions the seasonal opening of Oregon’s McKenzie Pass to nonmotorized users!

We had such a good time chatting that we kept on recording after we finished the show. Here’s some extra audio about advocacy, gender differences, doping & a lot of shared frustration with dog owners: E129x Lindsay on Racing & Dogs

Cory Poole & Billy Meiners from the NW Skate Coalition join us to talk skateboarding in Portland.  It’s not just a hobby, although it is fun – it’s also a great way to get around town that meshes well with the city’s streets and transit network.  Since they are two of the nicest guys in the business, we’re happy to share our conversation with them here!  Check out pdxdownhill.com and skatefriendlypdx.com for more details if you’re intrigued, as well as some long distance skate touring from the guys atlongboardtramp.com.
