E552 – Sam Balto, PhysEd Teacher and Active Transportation Advocate

Sam Balto is a physical education teacher and an advocate for active transportation.  Especially now that kids are attending school from home, how do we encourage them to get into their 60 minutes of physical activity per day?  He also shares his story of putting a picture of Tom Brady on a crosswalk and setting up “traffic gardens.”

Also, as always, thanks to our nationally recognized “top beer bar in Oregon” beverage sponsor, The Beer Mongers on SE12th and Division, now open for more than 4,000 days consecutively. They have a patio outside the place and, if you’re lucky, you might be able to catch some sports with sound.  The big stick remains indoor on the ceiling.  And, as always, thanks to our generous Patreon donors that keep us going!

From J Leko! Which we have learned is pronounced LEE co. He and Mayra (MY ra) said, “On the Tenth Anniversary podcast, you wanted suggestions/itineraries for a credit card tour. Here’s one Mayra and I plus two friends had planned for last October (which was cancelled for obvious reasons…) for the Great Allegheny Passage (GAP).

Background: GAP trail runs from Pittsburg, PA to Cumberland, MD where it joins up with the C&O Canal Towpath ending in Washington, D.C. The majority of the GAP are old railroad trails, so there are almost NO CARS to contend with! :-)”
