E548 – Caroline Burrows, Poet By Bike

This episode we talk to the bicycling poet, Caroline Burrows!  We talk about bicycle touring around the UK, and France, her family connection to touring and her grandfather’s influence, and how, since lockdown, she has been exploring her own area.  Also, is Bristol a nexus for generating famous people?  Find Caroline Burrows, VerseCycle, on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube

The family tandem sidecar bicycle mentioned:

We also get into a lengthy discussion of pets at the end of the show.

Also, as always, thanks to our nationally recognized “top beer bar in Oregon” beverage sponsor, The Beer Mongers on SE 12th and Division, now open for more than 4,000 days consecutively. They have a patio outside the place and, if you’re lucky, you might be able to catch some sports with sound.  The big stick remains indoor on the ceiling.  And, as always, thanks to our generous Patreon donors that keep us going!

WINTER BIKE LIGHTS
We are keeping the calendar on hiatus for now, but please do take some photos of how you are lighting your bike this winter. In line with local laws and regulations, we encourage you to add some more festive lights. If you do, take a photo, and share it with us on any of our social media, on Facebook at Sprocket Podcast, or Twitter or Instagram @SprocketPodcast and use the hashtag #sprocketwinterbike. Bring a bit of cheer to our days without much daylight.
of course we encourage you to follow any and all locally applicable regulations when riding your bicycle on public roadways.

E545 – Doug CohenMiller In Kazakhstan!

Doug CohenMiller has been a podcast listener and friend, and we met across time zones to chat without causing a quantum reaction that would implode our known reality.  Doug did a lot of bicycling in Texas before his family relocated to Kazakhstan (no, he hasn’t seen Borat, though we discuss “my wife”) where he braves pummeling winds and bitter cold in three different winter coats!  He’s also the graphic designer behind the coffeeneuring patches!  Stay tuned after the credits for his story of meeting bicycle legend Gary Fisher after chasing him through an airport.

Also, as always, thanks to our nationally recognized “top beer bar in Oregon” beverage sponsor, The Beer Mongers on SE12th and Division, now open for more than 4,000 days consecutively. They have a patio outside the place and, if you’re lucky, you might be able to catch some sports with sound.  The big stick remains indoor on the ceiling.  And, as always, thanks to our generous Patreon donors that keep us going!

WINTER BIKE LIGHTS
We are pausing the calendar til things are a bit safer, and we don’t have any mail this week. But! We do have something fun. With the pandemic and lack of social outings, winter is looking a bit bleak, so we are asking listeners to decorate your bikes with any extra fun lights, take a photo, and share it with us on any of our social media. Bring a bit of cheer to our days without much daylight. Use the hashtag #sprocketwinterbike
of course we encourage you to follow any and all locally applicable regulations when riding your bicycle on public roadways.

E538 – Karen & Keith’s First Bike Camping Trip

Karen & Keith were interested in bicycle camping, and so they went out to try it for the first time!  We talk about what the experience was like from the perspective of someone who’s new to the idea.  Routefinding, traffic & road surfaces, tire sizes, tents, and camp stoves, and much more.  Follow Karen at @pogschampion and Keith at @eyeletsandoptions.

Thanks to Mountain Shop and their webinar series that gave Karen the idea to try it out herself!

Also, Brock & Aaron chat about mechanical difficulties and other mishaps.
