E421 – Adele and Cyrus: Biking While Expecting

Adele hasn’t been on the show in a while, and that’s because she’s been working on a secret project with Brock: they have a bun in the oven!  That’s right, little baby Cyrus is preparing for birth into the world as we speak, and Adele joins the show to fill us in on what it’s like to continue bicycling into pregnancy.  It’s not all fun and games, but haters gonna hate, and there aren’t that many haters, really.  And there is a lot of fun to be had!

As always, thanks to our drink sponsor The Beer Mongers & our generous Patreon donors.

Also, Bicycle/Race, Adonia Lugo’s “…unforgettable picture of Los Angeles — and the United States — from the perspective of two wheels” is available from Microcosm Publishing and wherever you get your books.

E418 Phil’s Retro-Metro-spective

“AFTER 11 YEARS OF MAKING CARGO BIKES, METROFIETS WILL CEASE PRODUCTION AT THE END OF JUNE 2018.
WE HAVE HAD A GREAT RUN AND WANTED TO FINISH ON A STRONG NOTE.” -Metrofiets website

Phil Ross is the “co-founder-founder-founder” of Metrofiets. He stops in the studio to talk about the last 11 years of making Portland’s own brand of bakfietsen*, what was fun, and what made this journey so amazing for him.

*plural form of bakfiets**

**bakfiets (the term for the kind of cargo bike with the box on the front) is singular in this form. Don’t let the “s” on the end fool you.

We got to connect with Annalisa and Erik of Miles of Portraits an ongoing photo series “capturing the people we meet when we ride our bicycles really, really far.”

They are heading up to Alaska and we talk briefly about that. We also play voicemails of those who’ve called in with their own stories of the people they’ve met on the road.

E417 – Chris Talks Autonomous Vehicles

Chris Smith has been a community transportation advocate (in his spare time!) for about 20 years, and thinks a lot about how our streets work.  Who better to explain the coming autonomous vehicle revolution from the perspective of Portland, Oregon?  I, for one, welcome our new overlords!  Did I say overlords? I meant protectors.  How does all of this work, how safe is it, and who’s running this thing, anyways? {redacted}
